ELCOME TO 'ATTABOY! CAMPAIGN '98, the San Francisco Bay Area Election launch pad and jumplist. We bring you topical and newsworthy stories and hyperlinks to all the best places on the Web focusing on the 1998 election year. This effort is completely non-partisan and supported solely by its owner and webmaster.

This is the second generation of the jumplist. In 1996 a watershed of political activity took place on the Web. Every serious (and some not so serious) candidate struggled with the importance of placing focus and resources into a infant medium with no sure measure of the results of their efforts. 1998 promises to also be a second generation for the politically saavy webmaster or mistress. Even though this is not a Presidential Election year, already the juices are starting to flow in the creative veins of these designers who will take this interactive medium into the next century. Of course we cannot lose sight of the content, which in this case goes far beyond the "Cool Site" genre and right to the heart of the American Experience. The Web is truly a new generation of free press. Come along for the ride.

Our intent here is to provide a hyperlist based in the San Francisco Bay Area which addresses local campaigns and also gives you a jump start on your journey across the political landscape of America. If you or your favorite public servant (or public servant wannabe) have a link they would like to see included (or changed) please email politics@aboy.com and the list will be updated post haste!

 Critical Mass

Hypertext has come a long way since the days of "Click Here" pages with a few links and lots of rave. Gary Gach has created a Political HTML jumplist that shows the real power of this new media to educate and entertain. His effort should not be missed. The Campaign Trail '96 ~ Online guide to this seasons bumper crop of political sites on The Web sets a standard. This super-digest is a winner!

We participated in a study showing the effects of The Web on today's Presidential Campaign. This thorough and scholarly effort by Eric Klinenberg and Andrew Perrin, titled Symbolic Politics in the Information Age (The 1996 Presidential Campaigns on the Web) is a wonderful thesis on the current and potential influences of cyber-campaigning. Definitely worth the time to read.
